AI Script Drafting for Google Slides: Free Draft, Pro Credits or Your Own Key

How AI Script Drafting Works
- Install or update the extension. AI drafting is in SyncVocal for Chrome version 1.4.0 and later. Chrome updates extensions automatically; you can also check on the extensions page.
- Sign in. The first time, the extension shows a sign-in banner. Signing in links the extension to your free SyncVocal account, which is what lets it count your free draft. Skip this if you only use your own API key.
- Open your deck in Google Slides and click the SyncVocal icon. The prompter opens over your slides with your speaker notes loaded.
- Click Draft my script with AI. The extension reads the text and speaker notes on every slide.
- Answer a few questions. It asks things like who you're presenting to, how long you have, and the tone you want, plus up to two follow-up questions about anything your slides don't make clear. Type your answers or speak them.
- Review the draft. The script loads into the prompter, one section per slide, in order. Edit anything, then turn on Voice and present. Slides still advance as you finish each section.
What the AI Writes
- Spoken language, not slide language. Short sentences, contractions, no bullet points, no headings and no stage directions.
- Your slides and notes. Each section covers what the slide shows and what your speaker notes say, and works in what you told it about your audience and goals.
- The length you asked for. If you say you have two minutes, it aims for roughly 140 words a minute, a comfortable speaking pace.
- Your language. It writes in the language of your slides unless you ask for a different one.
Read the draft aloud once before presenting. It's a strong first version, and your own edits are what make it sound like you.

Using Your Own API Key
If you draft often, your own key avoids credits altogether. You pay your AI provider directly, usually a few cents per draft depending on the provider, the model and the length of your deck; check their current pricing.
- Create an API key with OpenAI (platform.openai.com), Anthropic for Claude (console.anthropic.com) or Google for Gemini (ai.google.dev).
- In the SyncVocal AI panel, open the option to use your own key, choose the provider and paste the key once.
- Draft as usual. Your key is stored on your own device in the extension's browser storage, and the extension sends requests straight to the provider you chose.
With your own key, your free draft and Pro credits are untouched.
Where Your Slide Text Goes
- With your own API key: your slide text goes from your browser directly to the provider you picked (OpenAI, Anthropic or Google). It doesn't pass through SyncVocal.
- With your free draft or Pro credits: the extension sends your slide text, speaker notes and answers to SyncVocal's server, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude to write the script and sends the result back. SyncVocal doesn't keep your slide text, answers or the generated script. It only records that a draft was used, so it can count your free draft or credits.

Tips for Better Drafts
- Put the facts in your slides or speaker notes. The AI works from what's there. Numbers, names and decisions you want mentioned should be written down somewhere it can read.
- Be specific in your answers. "Our board, who have seen the Q2 numbers" gives a better script than "executives".
- Say what you want people to do afterwards. The script will build toward it.
- Edit before you rehearse. Change any phrase that doesn't sound like you, then do one full read-through with voice sync on.

Do I need an API key?
No. Your first draft is free, and Pro includes monthly AI credits. An API key is optional and only needed if you want unlimited drafts.
Does it work with PowerPoint files?
Not directly. SyncVocal reads decks that are open in Google Slides. To use a PowerPoint deck, upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Slides first.
What happens to my free draft if the AI fails?
If a draft fails, you aren't charged. The free draft or credit is returned and you can try again.
Can I draft in another language?
Yes. The script is written in the language of your slides unless you ask for a different one. Voice sync itself works in 30 languages.
